Evelyn K. Davis Park

Evelyn K. Davis was a trailblazing advocate for Black families and underserved communities in Des Moines. She dedicated her life to improving the lives of working-class families, particularly through early childhood education and community development. One of her most significant contributions was founding Tiny Tots Daycare, a program that provided essential childcare and educational services for low-income families. Through Tiny Tots, Davis created a safe and nurturing environment for children while enabling parents to work and pursue opportunities for economic advancement.

Recognizing the systemic barriers that Black families faced, Davis became a tireless advocate for social change. She worked to expand access to education, employment opportunities, and essential services. Her work went beyond early childhood care—she engaged with local businesses, policymakers, and civic organizations to push for greater economic equity and support systems for marginalized communities.

Evelyn K. Davis also played a key role in workforce development initiatives, helping to establish programs that provided job training and career advancement opportunities for low-income individuals. Her commitment to empowering people through education and employment left a lasting impact on Des Moines, inspiring future generations to continue the fight for racial and economic justice.

In honor of her contributions, Evelyn K. Davis Park was established as a community gathering space that embodies her vision of unity, support, and empowerment. The park serves as a hub for cultural celebrations, family-friendly activities, and resources that continue her mission of uplifting Black families and underserved communities. Today, her legacy lives on through the organizations and initiatives she helped create, ensuring that her work to build a stronger, more inclusive Des Moines remains a vital part of the city's future.
